23 September Meeting Angela Pingel

Hi Everyone,

Angela Pingel from Cut to Pieces will be doing a workshop.  She will be teaching us Adore-la

You can get the free pattern here. Please download it and bring it to the workshop.   She has asked us to have our fabric pre-cut.  That way we will likely be able to finish the quilt top during the class. Yippee!

We will be meeting at the Kalamazoo library downtown (315 Rose St) in the Van Deusen room. Directions and parking info here.  Remember you don't need to feed the meters on weekends.   We have the room from 9-4:30.  Feel free to bring snacks and lunch.  We will have a lunch break during the workshop.

She also has this scrappy version on her blog.

August Online Activity

Put your perfect curve rulers away, we are going to do some improv circles this month! Following the tutorial by Leanne at She Can Quilt: http://www.shecanquilt.ca/2017/01/improv-circles-2016-fal-tutorial.html, make a quarter-circle block of size 10 1/2" (finish size 10"), using modern solids or prints for the rings and white or low-volume for the background.

Each quarter circle counts as a chance to win them all! Rules here.

22 July 2017 meeting

Hi everyone,
Looking forward to our shop hop this Saturday.  Looks like we have about 6 of us so far.  We can decide on drivers when we meet for breakfast.
We will meet at 9am at Grand Traverse Pie Company 5303 S. Westnedge Ave.
Even if you are not going on the shop hop stop in and get in on the block swap and social time.
I have contacted Duckadilly and she will open her Ann Arbor shop for us on Saturday.  Looking forward to seeing all the liberty of London fabrics.

Also planning to visit Pink Castle and Sew Unique.  We can decide on other stops on Saturday.
If we decide to visit Ann Arbor Sewing Center here is a way to save some dough.

Would you like 30% off any one cut of fabric?
Bring in a bag of old, wooden thread spools and take 30% off any one cut of fabric!

This is a great time to buy a backing for your next quilt!

One per customer, please.

Offer expires July 31, 2017.
They also have over 300 bolts of fabric in the clearance area.

I need to get going on my block for the swap.

See you Saturday.

July Meeting Plans

Hi Everyone,

Stephanie here!  At our last meeting (I still need to get minutes posted....I am sorry!), we decided for our July meeting, we would do a field trip to Ann Arbor to visit Pink Castle fabrics (and other places along the way).

Pink Castle Fabrics

We will be doing this on July 22, 2017.

We are trying to organize folks for this event, so we've created a Google form for everyone to fill out.  We are asking all members of the guild to complete the form, whether or not you are planning to attend (that's one of the questions on the form), just so we know we've reached everyone.  If you please, could you complete the Google form located at this link?

Complete Google Form Here

Thank you very much!  Details about the event are located on the form as well.

Hope to see you!

Stephanie

Online Activity for June

This month we are going to make Kylie Kelsheimer's Starry Sky block. It's a fun paper-pieced block and the free pattern is available on her blog at http://aperseveringmom.com/starry-sky-block-get-the-pattern-here/

We will make the 12-inch block, pattern pieces on pages 4-7 of the pattern PDF.  Please use white with black designs/text for the background, and bright solids for the star points.

If you need a refresher on paper piecing, Carol Doan has very good instructions here.
I found it useful to write "white and black" or "solid" on each section of the pattern pieces.
Place fabric right-side out (wrong side against paper) on the back of the paper.

To assemble the A-E sections, I sewed A to D, then sewed C to E, then sewed A+D to C+E, finally sewed B to the side.

April/May online activity

This month is an opportunity to get scrappy and use up some of your modern fabric stash!

Let's use this tutorial, from Amanda Jean Nyberg at Crazy Mom Quilts, to make scrappy pineapple blocks without paper piecing.

Like Amanda, Let's use bright modern fabric for the center and "cross",  and white or low-volume prints for the "x" and corners.

Finished size is 16" square.

I'll post mine as soon as I do it :-)

Post before or bring to the May meeting for a chance to win them all! Rules here.
