What to bring for the sew in

HI Everyone!
I hope you are coming to our sew in on March 23 (see previous post for more information).  It should be a lot of fun.  Some people have asked about what they should bring to the sew in.  So, here is information on what to bring:
  • Regular sewing supplies (e.g., sewing machine, rotary cutters, scissors, rulers, smaller cutting mat, thread)
  • Lots and lots of scraps--any color, any size! (Jackie, who is doing our demonstration, typically uses solids with some crazy prints thrown in there and there.  Stephanie, who will be doing another demonstration uses anything and everything.)
If you would like to bring other projects to work on, please feel free to do so.  You do not need to work on the skills we are demonstrating the entire time. We are having the sew in to have fun!

A few of us are bringing irons and ironing boards, so we should have a few of those there.  If you want to bring a small iron and pressing mat to have at your side, that's fine, too.

Let us know if you have any other questions!  Looking forward to seeing you there!

Upcoming Sew In Date

Our next meeting, for the GLMQG, will be held on March 23rd at the Ransom District Library in Plainwell.  This meeting will run from 10:00 until 12:00.  Following a break for lunch we will be hosting our first GLMQG sew in!  This gathering will be opened to all attenders, no need to be a member at this time.  This sew in will give us all a chance to get to know each other better and share what we're working on!

Date:  March 23rd
Time:  1:00-5:00
Place:  Plainwell Area Community Center
            798 East Bridge St.
            Plainwell, Michigan
Cost:  $10
           CASH ONLY

One of our members will be presenting a demo on intuitive piecing.  Another will do a presentation of how to make some "made fabric" using Victoria Findlay Wolfe's "15 Minutes to Play" book.

So that we have an idea of how many will be attending, please contact us at:
We also need to have several volunteers to help with set up and clean up, so if you are able to help, please include that in your e-mail.

We hope to see you there!

Great Second Meeting

We've doubled! At this rate, we'll have over 600 members by the holidays! Okay a bit overly optimistic, but it was great to have 16 modern quilters show up for our second organizational meeting.

We discussed bylaws, nonprofit status, dues, logo, meeting schedule and activities. Committees were formed to draft bylaws and membership form. Dues were set at $25 per year, but no dues were collected yet.  The most satisfying accomplishment was reaching consensus on our schedule!
  • bimonthly face-to-face meetings for show/share and demos
  • alternate bimonthly online block exchanges/challenges
  • semi-annual sew-ins around a technique or topic lead by volunteer members
Then  the FUN part -- Show and Tell. These are just a few of the fun things we are working on.
