Minutes from June 2020 Meeting

We had a wonderful time at our June Zoom meeting.  We had a guest presentation from Amy Friend of During Quiet Time (find her on instagram as @duringquiettime).  We had hoped to have her here in real life, and the plan was to have a workshop with her.  But, alas, Covid-19 did not allow it.  A huge thank you to Amy, however, for being willing to punt and to work with us on a Zoom presentation instead.

Amy is the author of three books:  Intentional Piecing, Petal and Stem (her most recent book), and Improv Paper Piecing.  The topic of her lecture was Intentional Piecing, and it focused on both fussing cutting and choosing fabrics very intentionally for the texture, movement, and sparkle they can add to your quilt.  I know everyone will be thinking about their fabric choices more carefully after this presentation.

After the presentation, we held our business meeting.  We noted that the public libraries have closed their public meeting spaces for the remainder of the year, so we will plan for Zoom meetings for the remainder of the year.  In July, we will have our social meeting and keep moving along with Lisa's sew along.  In August, our own Kate White is going to lead us in a bag making sew along on Zoom.  Stay tuned for more details on that!  In September, we will have another social meeting sew along with Lisa. In October, we are having Cindy Wiens of Live a Colorful Life (also @liveacolorfullife on Instagram) to discuss working with selvedges.  Stay tuned for details on whether this will be in person, on Zoom, or a hybrid.  In December, we usually have our Holiday Party.  It is not clear whether we'll be able to do this in person or virtually.  But, do not fret!  We are having a holiday party and swap,  no matter what format it's in.  Stay tuned!

After this, discussion followed about the group's expectations for a guild in a virtual world.  We discussed our tentative plans for next year.  We think we have some exciting things in store for you.  Also, stay tuned!

Last was show and tell.  I completely forgot to take photos but did manage to capture one or two, when I finally remembered.  My apologies to all of you who shared wonderful things you were working on and whose work isn't featured here.  That's all on me for forgetting to take photos.

Jane used her precious Marcia Durst fabric.

Dorothy showed us some cool fabric dying she's been up to lately.  (She emailed me this photo later.)  Many people asked and were interested in this.  The person she's taking classes from is Cindy Lohbeck and her website is here:  https://www.handsonhanddyes.com/about-us.htm

That concluded our meeting and hope to see you all next month at our social meeting and sew along!

Hope you are all staying healthy!  Take good care!

Respectfully submitted,
Stephanie
