April Guild Activity

Our April activity will be a "virtual meeting" instead of an actual gathering. We'll each take the month to create a quilt block and at the end of the month we'll display them all online together.  Participants will be entered in a drawing to win the all blocks!

Details:
  • The block pattern is Converging Corners by Film in the Fridge by Ashley
  • Make one or more blocks, 12" finished size (12 1/2" square)
  • Use the same color scheme in the tutorial : solid white Kona for the background, bright (saturated color) prints or solids for the rest. Use a large, fun print for the center square.
  • Submit a photo of the completed block by April 27.  We want this to be fun and easy, not stressful, so we have several options for submitting your photo.
    • If you have a Flickr account, please post the photo to Flickr, add it to the Great Lakes Modern Quilt Guild group pool, and tag it GLMQG-Apr13
    • If you have a Facebook account, you may post the picture to the Great Lakes Modern Quilt Guild facebook page.
    • You may email your photo to glmodernquilter@gmail.com
    • If you do not have access to a digital camera, contact me (Carolyn) and I will arrange to photograph your block.
  • View the completed blocks here
  • Bring your block to the May 18th meeting. We'll draw a lucky winner who will get to take home all our blocks. That winner must assemble the blocks into a finished quilt before being eligible to win again. Fair enough?
Happy quilting!

Upcoming Sew In Set Up

The date of our first sew in is rapidly approaching!  Hopefully the weather will cooperate and we won't have any snow storms.

The center has agreed to open up for us early, so that we have time to prepare.  If you are able to help with the set up, they will have the doors opened at 12:45.

See you there!

What to bring for the sew in

HI Everyone!
I hope you are coming to our sew in on March 23 (see previous post for more information).  It should be a lot of fun.  Some people have asked about what they should bring to the sew in.  So, here is information on what to bring:
  • Regular sewing supplies (e.g., sewing machine, rotary cutters, scissors, rulers, smaller cutting mat, thread)
  • Lots and lots of scraps--any color, any size! (Jackie, who is doing our demonstration, typically uses solids with some crazy prints thrown in there and there.  Stephanie, who will be doing another demonstration uses anything and everything.)
If you would like to bring other projects to work on, please feel free to do so.  You do not need to work on the skills we are demonstrating the entire time. We are having the sew in to have fun!

A few of us are bringing irons and ironing boards, so we should have a few of those there.  If you want to bring a small iron and pressing mat to have at your side, that's fine, too.

Let us know if you have any other questions!  Looking forward to seeing you there!

Upcoming Sew In Date

Our next meeting, for the GLMQG, will be held on March 23rd at the Ransom District Library in Plainwell.  This meeting will run from 10:00 until 12:00.  Following a break for lunch we will be hosting our first GLMQG sew in!  This gathering will be opened to all attenders, no need to be a member at this time.  This sew in will give us all a chance to get to know each other better and share what we're working on!

Date:  March 23rd
Time:  1:00-5:00
Place:  Plainwell Area Community Center
            798 East Bridge St.
            Plainwell, Michigan
Cost:  $10
           CASH ONLY

One of our members will be presenting a demo on intuitive piecing.  Another will do a presentation of how to make some "made fabric" using Victoria Findlay Wolfe's "15 Minutes to Play" book.

So that we have an idea of how many will be attending, please contact us at:
We also need to have several volunteers to help with set up and clean up, so if you are able to help, please include that in your e-mail.

We hope to see you there!
