Minutes from April Guild Meeting

We had our first fully virtual guild meeting on April 25!  And it was a success!  It was so wonderful to see everyone.  I knew I had missed you all a lot, but I guess I didn't realize how much until we got together.  My spirits were so much lighter and happier after our meeting.  I spoke to some other members, who reported the same feelings.  So, thanks to everyone who came!  (Please forgive my photos and messy laundry room in the background.  I didn't have time to do a lot of photo editing.  Keeping it real, friends!)
Look at all the people who attended!  It was great to see some new members and old friends who have now joined us from afar!

We had 34 people on the Zoom call for our meeting!

We began with a brief business meeting and show and tell.  I forgot to take photos from the show and tell, but I did remember to grab one:
One member showed her great iced dyed fabric and how she put it into a mini quilt.  Wow!  So gorgeous!
Next, our amazing Lisa Ruble gave us a great demo with wonderful instruction on three different improv block.  She taught and demonstrated, and then we all sewed along with her.  Chatting as we sewed.  So fun!  We began with an improve flying geese block.
After sewing, folks held up their flying geese blocks.

We needed two screens to capture everyone.
Next, Lisa showed us how to do an improv and wonky stear block.
Lisa shows us her finished block as a model.

Lisa demonstrates how to form the star points.

Show and tell for people's completed star blocks!
More show and tell!

Next, Lisa showed us how to piece an improv and wonky log cabin block.
Lisa's wonky log cabin sample.

Show and tell--everyone was successful!

More show and tell!

The blocks above are some close up examples that were texted to me, so you can get a better look at them.

Lisa is planning a sew along for us, while we continue to be sheltering at home.  Stay tuned for details.  There will be lots of improv in our sew along and prizes for participating.  Hope you'll join us.  Thank you so much to Lisa for providing us an amazing program and for being so brave and creative in being willing to go totally virtual for us!  It was really fun.  I feel so grateful for such an amazing group of friends who are willing to take risks and try new things (like virtual meetings).

Hang in there, everyone.  Stay well.  Virtual hugs all around!  Missing you....

April Guild Meeting

This Saturday (April 25) at 10:00 a.m. via Zoom, guild member Lisa Ruble will be sharing demos for three different improv piecing blocks. We’ll be doing these demos workshop-style, so if you’d like to sew along, have your sewing machine, cutting supplies, iron, and some large scraps or fat quarters ready to go. We hope you enjoy this opportunity to build on or refresh your improv piecing skills!

Stay at Home Sewing Together: Lisa will also be revealing a new modern BOM quilt design that guild members can be part of starting in May. (Hint: It’ll use the techniques we learn on Saturday.)

We will also go over guild business, and don't forget to have your Show & Tells ready!

Check your email for links to join us via Zoom!
